Iraq veteran, NFL rookie with the Broncos

What a story to add sunshine in New York. It’s been raining for days, thought the Sun Lord had forgotten about us in this corner of the planet.
You go Rulon Davis!

The Denver Post
By Mike Klis

There are many Broncos players who, after their freshman season of college ball, began to realize the NFL was not just possible, but probable.

Others may have been focusing on earning a promotion from backup to starter. Some may have been dealing with other issues, such as grades and girls.

Rulon Davis went off to fight in the Iraq war.

Fight for his country, a far cry from the sports world, where Davis is currently competing, as an undrafted 25-year-old free-agent defensive end, for a spot on the Broncos’ roster.

Agent hopes Vick can return to NFL by September

Michael Vick has lined up a 40-hour-a-week, $10-an-hour job at one of W.M. Jordan Co.’s 40 commercial construction jobs, said John Robert Lawson, whose father helped start the Newport News company.

The former Atlanta Falcons QB is serving 23-month sentence for bankrolling a dog fighting operation. A huge misstep .. maybe he can come to fix my deck?

The Houston Texans running back Ryan Moats ran a red light, caught by Officer Robert Powell. What’s so sickening’s Moats’ mother-in-law was dying upstairs in the hospital, the nurse came down trying to get him but the police officer just won’t let him go ..

$150 at Citi Field

Ok baseball fans , game at the new Citi Field vs the Pittsburgh Pirates will be held on Friday, May 8th. The party suites for that night, not on the firm, so the tax payers don’t get too agitated. It’s $150 per head that includes the ticket, open bar from 5:45 till the 7th inning, and a hot buffet. Not so bad after all. Can I get a Giants bleacher seat this coming October? I knew I could get a decent seat at Lincoln Center either for the NY Philharmonic or Met Opera that isn’t high in the sky with $150 🙂

NFL players missing at sea

Raiders’ Marquis Cooper, ex-Lion Corey Smith are missing at sea since Saturday night and Coast Guard is not hopeful of finding them.

欺山莫欺水 .. Chinese likes to say

I’m surprised at the size of the boat – 21 footer, very small, especially given the size of an average NFL players. What were they thinking when they rode out? The unsinkable little boat was no match for the swell ocean. No one is invincible.

NFL combine

NFL is drafting this weekend. All the eligible candidates are showing up, giving their potential employer a final look. The process is no less than rocket science, I’m sure. Few years ago it was held in New York.

When San Diego drafted Eli Manning, he refused to go. He had always wanted to play for the Giants and it wanted him too. It might look very arrogant when you’re unproven commodity. But Eli has proven. I wondered what would happen if a player doesn’t want to play for the team that has drafted him? Does the player has a button to press to say Yes or No to the draft right away so he remains available for the next team?

The first time I saw the draft, it reminded me of the slave auction in the ancient time. The owners would inspect the slave before buying. The same goes with the NFL draft, (other major league as well but football is the most pungent. Actually few football rituals remind me of the Romans, the medieval time, like the QB would knee down if the team is leading to wear out the last couple of minutes.) that they all have stat sheets in hand, just short of poking the player’s eyes, and exam his arm pits (ok ..) .. but you get the picture.

That’s it?

That’s it for the Cardinals? The 100 yard interception touch down by the Steelers? It’s only half time. If the Cardinals made to the Super Bowl last year they would have played on home turf. Oh well .. ..

Avon does commercial on Super Bowl. Hmmmmmmmmm .. Andrea Jung is doing well, especially when job market is so bleak. Long time ago I had an opportunity to interview her, but didn’t pursue it. My bad.

Budweiser (Anheuser-Busch)’s commercials are always good and enjoyable. Now they’re not even owned by the Americans .. errr .. by the Belgians. Hey how come I didn’t see the America beer drinkers took to the street for the globalization like the Frenchies?

We’re having hot pot dinner for the super bowl party, washing it down with Charles Krug‘s 2004 Yountville Cabernet Sauvignon. Very yummmy.. ..

Anyone saw Roger Federer cry? Between him and Nadal, I’ll take Roger any time .. But sorry I like Sampras more and his record is still intact ..

Reconsidering Plaxico Burress

The Giants lost its first play off game. It won only 1 game out of 6 since Plaxico shot himself in the leg. It’s noble to set a strict rule or example, but I thought the quick decision made by Giants was too harsh . He was not even convicted, doesn’t the law say you’re innocent till proven guilt? Why shouldn’t he be given the same opportunity? Drunk drivers and drug dealers all get to enjoy it.

When can the government or SEC learn from the sporting leagues, that rules do apply and that accountability means something. I don’t think that a coach or a player who fails to perform and they would be showing the door with a $250m bonus or severance package. Same goes to the government officials, look at Hillary who ran for higher office for 1 or 2 years while still being paid as NY senator. She wasn’t doing her job, why should she still have that job when she failed to win the nomination? Shouldn’t they resign from the post to run?

Run baby run

The Panthers and Giants game last night was so great! Yapppppy. Giants won it in OT and now would have the home-field advantage. Some commentators joked that their trip to the Super Bowl this year won’t have to take the scenic route.

Giants played a very effective running game and that big dude Bran-done– he’ll become a free-agent – rushed in the winning TD in OT. He’s lethal.

Ok, I was too busy watching the football, did not state clear about pragmatic love. Yes, people of all ages falling in love. And love has the magic touch to render one powerless. What I meant is as one gets older, falling in love would more often come with few trappings, such as compatibility and affordability, especially among Asians.

One conversation I heard a while back between two g/fs. A Caucasian whose hubby died young (a medical doctor) was dating a schoolteacher. The Chinese lady whose hubby is 20 years her senior incredulously asked, “don’t you worry about your financial future?”
The Caucasian replied,
“Yes I do, but first I have to find him attractive.”
There lie two different philosophies. Granted they come from different worlds and backgrounds. But what puzzled me is that few more Chinese divorcees I came across had the same attitude: they first worry if the men they’re dating have money or are after their money.
“What make you think he doesn’t worry that you’re after his money?” I often wondered.
They are miserable while dating. And the Internet dating. Oh .. a g/f is dating, and meeting different guy every week. In the beginning we were curious and pumped her for info. But after few weeks we were tired. I think if you can get different guy every week, so could he. Well, unless she enjoys meeting different man every week, I think it’s waste of time. And I often heard that the pictures resemble nothing in reality. ..

There isn’t a right way or wrong way doing it. You do what you have to and want to. But you get what you dish. So I think being kind, generous and less calculating may find a true love again. Not saying being meant and stingy won’t find true love.

I don’t have distraction of little Giants, so I hope I convey my thoughts clearer. In any event, life is simple yet complicated, or simply complicated. I’m no expert except knowing that you could only harvest what you planted.

有情人终成眷属 .. Let your heart lead you.

Introspective

When one reflects too much, it makes him or her a loser. But when one has no introspective, weeeellll, I think it’s a lose .. too. So we have to find that middle ground.

Year end is always a good time to do so.

Tiki Barber interviewed Giants’ running back #27 Brandon Jacobs who’s agile and can run despite his little size -Height: 6-4 Weight: 264; born: 7/6/1982 Houma , LA .. who’s longing for the national recognition or the stardom. The interview showed clips the two played together.
Bran-Done ..
At the end, Tiki said, he has one more question.
“Why did you go to Superbowl without me?”
..
“Can I have the ring?” Tiki joked.
“I’ll lend it to you.” The running back teased back.

I felt sad for Tiki. I like him a lot but obviously he wasn’t right for the Giants. In reality, the little Giants might not win the Superbowl had he not left. It’s so trite to say that life is unpredictable, but it’s true. The Black Swan made fun of another book that I enjoyed, Blink.
