I was utterly routed 落花流水

I was mauled by two vicious victorious men William and Ding again. It was first time ever that Simon and I got bageled and egged. Sorry Simon. They were 来势汹汹 again: prepared and ready to roll. The weakest link Irene was pretty busy, getting all the balls but couldn’t do a thing. Simon quitted talking from game 3 – he wasn’t pleased the way I played. And the two went on to win 10 games straight: 6:0 and 6:1.

So William decided to take poor me as partner against them. We got two hot dogs – 1:6 & 1:6.

Holy smoke. So all those times they were playing nice with me, baby the shots, making Irene happy, being the perfect gentlemen. Thanks a lot guys. I need to go into hiding and horn my game in a cave 🙂 where is da Osama bin Laden – saw a syndicated carton on the Times where one Wall Streeet executive holding a bag of bonus $$ was looking for a cave to hide and being greeted by Mr. bin Laden who’s telling the master of the universe to “find your own cave ..”. Can you believe that the AIG executives are getting death threats .. .. how dumb can the public be .. read on:

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — The bus pulled to a stop, and a pastor whose sister-in-law was facing foreclosure, a laid-off steelworker with a wife and five children, and a few of their colleagues nervously stepped out, like sightseers in some exotic land.
The exotic land was a residential neighborhood here in one of the wealthiest places in America, Fairfield County, where, at the end of a cul-de-sac a short walk away, an A.I.G. executive lived. The pastor, the steelworker and about 40 others slowly made their way up the street, past the house with the four-car garage, as an international press corps numbering about 50 chronicled every step.
.. ..

Totally so UNAmerican.

Hi, people, stop that. This has gone way way too far. IF the executives did not steal or rub the bank, got their pay thought work, leave them alone. Direct your anger elsewhere, like toward the government who failed to regulate the mess in the first place, or those who agreed to their salary. This still is, a free market, correct?

Michael Jordan cries

When his son’s team wins the state championship. So sweet ..

PEORIA, Ill. – Michael Jordan celebrated another Chicago basketball championship – his son’s.

Marcus Jordan, son of the Bulls’ six-time champion, scored a game-high 19 points to lead Chicago Whitney Young to a 69-66 victory over Waukegan in the Illinois Class 4A championship Saturday.

As Marcus Jordan and his teammates celebrated on the court after the final buzzer, Michael Jordan stood quietly, clapping his hands with tears in his eyes.

“Crying?” the NBA great said in response to a reporter’s question. “I’m not crying. Not for me, anyway.”

The younger Jordan was key down the stretch after two teammates fouled out, hitting four of four free throws in the final 3 minutes to seal the victory.

“Awesome,” Marcus Jordan said. “Just awesome.”

Michael Jordan, part-owner of the Charlotte Bobcats, skipped his team’s home loss to Indiana so he could attend his son’s game. Another son, Jeff Jordan, plays basketball for the University of Illinois.

The pride of a parent. The love of a parent. ..

Michael is one of my most favored athletes. Smart, sexy and accomplished. I always wonder why Jaguar didn’t use him to advertise, a perfect fit – the older models when it was sleek and sexy; the newer models are look like Japanese. Instead he did for undies, fruit of loom, what a waste.

Ehhhrrr..

Today isn’t my day. I just lost a watch. Not A watch. THE watch. Lucy’s, given to me by Uncle Jimmy and Aunt Winnie in 2005, after her funeral. It was very thoughtful of them. I rarely wear it and today took it to change battery. I probably did not buckled it tight afterward. When I sat down to eat, realized it was no longer on my wrist. I traced my footsteps back to the store, but didn’t find it. I just wanted to slap myself and scream.

It could have been a nice day. I won three sets this morning with a James (what’s his name?) against Clay and a lady. Then Power came and he teamed up with the girl (I got dumped .. wa wa wa) .. somehow we gave them a bagel.

Then I saw Charles Zhang was at Next court, threesome. So I went to play with them. I haven’t played with Charlie for a few years. He improved tremendously. The very first time we played was few years ago, one morning .. Sunny and I had a date to play doubles, as we were about to strike the first ball, Sunny spotted an Indian male player who dressed in black, looking really cool and looking for a game. So dear Sunny told me,
“Irene, you go play next court.”
I looked around, next court? There were only two guys playing.
Sunny was busy with the new MIB, as he was hitting, he spotted Charlie, who was looking for a game, with his racket on his shoulder wandering around the Cunnigham Park .. ..
“You,” Sunny was busy hitting and telling Charlie,
“You go play with her.”
So that’s how we met.
I was pretty mad at Sunny who got me up early to the court and dropped me like hot potato for MIB :). That’s very Sunny .. but I love him anyway – unrequited. Ya, I have no life.
Charlie is pretty cool: he has not been playing for long, about 10 years or less (I think 7 or so) but as soon as he started to play, he’s been taking two weeks off every year to work at USTA during the Open. We are talking about the dedication and craziness about the game. He’s really a solid player now and won’t be taking a cast off from Sunny any more cause he has large playing base now.
The guy I was teamed up with, IF my memory served right, was a coach from Shanghai whom I took a lesson with once, about 13 years ago. He was odd. First he said he couldn’t run because he had more lessons to give, “too tired” was what he said. Then he took the shading site of the court because he didn’t want to stand under the sun. I think he probably just got here. I never called him again.
I didn’t know the other guy’s name but saw him around. He and Charlie were nice, didn’t smack down on me. We actually had a break then the fourth guy arrived.

Btw, I just cheched, thank lord my head is still on my shoulders. I kicked myself so hard for losing the watch, it hurt! I probably won’t have the good fortune at finding it this time around. Not sure I was hungry or mad but ate extra dumplings and stuff that I didn’t know the name. Emergency room next?

$150 at Citi Field

Ok baseball fans , game at the new Citi Field vs the Pittsburgh Pirates will be held on Friday, May 8th. The party suites for that night, not on the firm, so the tax payers don’t get too agitated. It’s $150 per head that includes the ticket, open bar from 5:45 till the 7th inning, and a hot buffet. Not so bad after all. Can I get a Giants bleacher seat this coming October? I knew I could get a decent seat at Lincoln Center either for the NY Philharmonic or Met Opera that isn’t high in the sky with $150 🙂

Working for Lenny Dykstra?

It was every New York sports journalist’s dream come true: working for a Mets legend on his glossy new magazine, leaving behind the daily newspaper grind for the world of private jets, high finance, and $18 million estates. But as Kevin Coughlin found out, when your boss is Lenny Dykstra, you’d better be ready to get beaned

By Kevin Coughlin

Oh poor Kevin .. I’ve heard Lenny been making waves first in car wash then became the stock picker .. baseball never thrills me but Lenny kind of did. He was pretty exciting to watch, like the Knicks’ John Starks, tennis one-slamer Michael Chang, even Evan Lendl*: not terribly gifted but max out on what they had, worked very very hard at their craft. They all fairly known amount the fans in their respective sport. Asking your employees to foot the private jet is the first. .. Hope Kevin’s article would yield enough monetary reward to make up the salary Lenny owed him.

*Lendl once said

People will sometimes ask me, ‘How much talent did you have in tennis?’ I say, ‘Well, how do you measure talent?’ Yeah, sure, McEnroe had more feel for the ball. But I knew how to work, and I worked harder than he did. Is that a talent in itself? I think it is.”

Am I a snob if I admit that I only enjoy watching Pete Sampras, Roger Federer and Boris Becker, not Lendl and Chang?

6 sets

From Russia friends with love: bitter medicines tested and proven.

If one loves something so much, she’ll do it under any circumstance. I’ve been playing with pains for a while. My caring and concerned buddies have given me many remedies. The only problem is: will they work for me?

Any way, I played 6 sets, 2 wins and 4 losses. Took 2 showers, finished the Times and got dinner ready. Now taking few minutes to blog before my guests arrive.

My ankle will never heal.

First game started at 6am. William and Ding looked hungry and all business, 气势汹汹 qishi xiongxiong -fierce. Josh and I surrendered the first set at 6:1. We changed site, and got a bagel (W and D did not get us lox, cheapos). Changed side again, got another hot dog. The fourth set was on serve @ 2:2 when time was up. Josh wanted to continue out door. I just wanted a hot shower.

While I was grocery shopping in Flushing, Jonathan called at 10:30 asking where I was. Darn, I did say I’d come to play last night. So I rushed there to play again. Was I nuts or what? I don’t know. No asking Irene.

So Irene teamed up with Simon played against Jonathan and Bob. Simon got his game at love, and Jonathan was down at 15:40 when I missed an easy overhead. The first set went to them, 6:2.

I wasn’t terribly down at that point even my ankle was bothering me but not to a point that I wanted to quit. So to compensate my limited movement, I used my brain a little; got ready for each shot and turned my shoulders .. the whole 9 yards. We were 4:0 then eventually took the second set at 6:2. And third set at 6:2 also.

Paul Lin came for the real game. He said, “Wow, you improved a lot, now you get to play with me.” Ha ha ha ha.. and he went on to ask, “what else would she have worked so hard for?” Actually with the Sunday morning group, Paul as well as Wah were always in high demand, and other players would juggle hard to play with them.

Friday I teamed up with John and played Phyllis and Clay. We had set a team then. John and Phyllis had to leave. So Power and I played against Larry and Clay. They were so sarcastic and let us went to 5:1 then tighten the screw. Beaten us at 5:7. They were pretty funny and made me laugh so much till it hurt. The friendly games were competitive but still differ from the USTA’s league. Hmmmm… the league .. na, not now.

Yesterday afternoon Simon practiced with me for nearly an hour, on volley and lob. When Benny came, we started mixed doubles game against SAndy – Sandy and Andy. Few years ago in a tourney, Albert and I defeat SAndy and then Chris and Eric to take the trophy home. But now SAndy are so much better. Don’t think Albert and I would have a chance. So back to the game. We were down at 1:3 and then caught up at 3:3, Benny told me, “they won’t take another game from us.”

Benny is type of guy who would tell you he could get you a good deal practically anywhere. When I first met him few years ago, on court. He had a clear plastic box that contained 6 or 12 cans of tennis balls.
“Where did you get it?” I asked because the cans were rolling around in my truck in disarray.
“I got it from Costco.” He replied.
“I should go and buy.” I said out loud.
“I can get you a good deal on it.” He said.
Of course he never followed it up 🙂

At 3:3, Sandy needed to go to the girl’s room.

Tony came.

So it’s boys’ game. Tony teamed with Andy against Simon and Benny. We were just some groupies. The seriousness was in the air. I seldom heard Simon say s-h-i-t but he said it a lot yesterday. And there were tense moments. The Israeli and the Singaporean were often disagreed. There were many light moments when we laugh. Both teams (8.0) had the chance to win if they played it right and well. The first set went to the Israeli/Singaporean. Second set went to Tony/Andy. I left at 6pm when they started the third set.

Tony often took up the entire court as if he’s playing singles. I think his joy at playing tennis is the apparent pressure not the pleasure. He always seemed tense. But again, who am I to criticize when I am always on the losing end? I probably should start to put some seriousness and pressure on myself. Maybe I am really afraid to lose, so I tell myself that I just want to have a good game? Loser.

Citi Field and C

Not a bad day for tennis. Ben and I won 2:1 against Powers and another gentleman. Larry and Josh were there too. I suspect that few of them might just live at the USTA. Wish I had that much of time too.

Citigroup Chief Executive Vikram Pandit said in a letter to employees that the bank had operated at a profit for the first two months of this year and was on track, based on historical trends, to make $8.3 billion for the quarter.

So C rose a grand 40 some cents to close at $1.45. Big deal. Still a penny stock thou. The new development on College Point and Roosevelt Avenue in Flushing is coming.

Stadium Is Citi Field, but the Subway Stop Has Other Ideas: the transit officials met with the Mets over the last few weeks, in hope that Mets would share the $20m Citi shell out each year for 20 years. But the Mets said no.

Mr. Soffin [a transit official ] said $18 million had been spent so far, on refurbishing the platforms, painting the stations, installing new lights and improving wheelchair access.

I looked around, above and blow at the subway station there and saw no improvement what so ever. Who pocketed the $18m? It must be the greatest job to be a contractor to New York City.

Tiger Woods at the Inauguration .. 国母 is white

I’m glad to see Tiger’s speech when he mentioned only the military at Obama’s party. Both he and Obama are half black. Actually Tiger’s dad Earl was a mixture of Black, Chinese, and Native American. When the black people clamoring for the first black president (are they really that insecure?), I think in the process as if to say Obama’s white mother didn’t exist? It’s the same way with Tiger, as if to say his Asian Mom isn’t in the equation. We Asians could care less if Tiger claims himself a Black or Asian or even orange or eggplant i nthat matter, we love him equally, not becasue of his skin color but for his contributions to the world. Race should only be skin deep. I think we Asians have that confidence. Why didn’t Obama stand up to reiterate that he’s half white? 国母 is white, no matter how you dice the story.

Danny Lee is a new kid on the block of the golf green to watch. I think he’s probably more of Korean Lee than Chinese Lee 🙂 It’s so remarkable that so many good Korean golfers around nowadays.

Today March 8th, is the Ladies’ Day 三八妇女节 and I lost 3 sets in a row this morning – 6:3, 6:1 (with John) and 7:5 (with William). What can I say, just not my day. And I did a pretty disgusting thing by giving up a game. We were on serve and I was serving duce at 1 set to 2. It was perhaps the 8th duce and I double faulted it. Not entirely intentional but it could have been avoided. I was really tired – not a good excuse.

Last Thursday was a better day for me tennis wise, won 3 sets convincingly with Larry. The 4th was a give away that I threw in the towel: couldn’t move my feet any more, and I was experiencing new symptom: cramp in my thighs. First it occured in my right and then the left didn’t want to be left out so it joined in by third set. I was so relieved n happy to won the third set.
