New serve motion is working

Happy to report, keep my left arm up after tossing works pretty good for me lately.

Is this butterfly injured? I was in a rush – late to tennis, didn’t investigate … Hope the butterfly all is well.

Back to the water

The last day before the final. I switched duel gauge to threesome with a compass 鸟枪换炮, which I think is a practical combo; and got a pair of gloves.

The assistant coach Ralph taught tonight. Ed was the ‘assistant’ tonight.

The pool water was 72º, which is cold if you don’t move a lot, which we didn’t. Ed’s father came out to say hello at the end.

I recorded my classmates’ back into the water skill – all passed -:)

Pottery #3: making vase

Our third class is all about slab cylinders texture mug / vase.

The little turtle, flower, etc we made on our first class, are dried, waiting to be burned.

Before we leave, the pottery master talked about glazing materials – the colors!

A classmate placed order for us – we all get two basic colors, plus an additional third (all different), so we can all share and experiment.

We glaze this one during our 5th and 6th class; afterward it went to the kiln. I picked up the finished product on Nov 13.

Glazing:

  • inside: pour Celadon
  • outside:
    • 1. celadon
    • smokey merlot
    • blue rustile

Training days 4: checkout dive

After three training days, which the last two have spent times in the pool, we’re diving our first OWD at Lake Denton, a popular spot for beginners.

Lake Denton is 66 acre spring fed lake. The deepest part is 51 feet. It’s 65 miles south of Disney World in Orlando.

学物理 ⚛️ 好有用

We did two dives. Although the water is a little muddy, but we saw plenty fish – mostly bass and perch, a turtle and a snake. Each of us get two tank of gas, for the two dives.

My step by step to an open water dive:

  1. get excited for the dive
  2. pack your bag
  3. carry your heavy bag to the car and drive to the meet up place
  4. unload and load the bag
  5. load the cylinders
  6. drive to the water …
  7. unload bags and cylinders
  8. putting on the warrior’s suit and all + cylinder
  9. walk to the water
  10. dive … heaven
  11. gas runs out and dive is over
  12. walk back to the car w/ the cylinder on your back
  13.  … we did the 2nd dive, repeat partial 8 (get a new cylinder) to step 12
  14. unclothed
  15. pack the cylinders and bags
  16. drive back
  17. clean the warrior suit
  18. drive home

Are you ready for this?

What if we’re going out on a boat? The master diver / coach Ed says, well, you still have to bring your bag to the boat … Ed said, in the summer, he has a college kid at his shop do the washing. …Well, you can always pay someone to carry the bag and do the washing for you …

We stopped at Raceway gas station in Avon Park for a quick stop: bathroom and breakfast, etc. Lake Denton is only a five minutes away.

Why SSI? Both Padi and SSI are American organization that have gone globe. Professional Association of Diving Instructors was founded in 1966 by John Cronin and Ralph Erickson, headquarters in CA. It has 128k pros and 6,600 dive centers/resorts. SSI Scuba Schools International was founded in 1970.

Per Ed, his father started this outdoor shop, gearing toward boycott, camping and diving, etc. in 1984. Then one year in 1994, one of his customer got solicited ad from Padi directly … His father wanting an apology from the organization but Padi said they’re their customers. His father then switched to SSI in 1996. We don’t hear so much about SSI is because SSI gears toward the dive shops.

Reportedly, SSI is huge in China, especially mermaid program.

Dive: training day 3

Our third training day & 2nd day in the pool at getting the SSI certificate.

We did review of Chapter 4 at the store, with the kid answering most of the questions, then headed to the pool.

The temperature is similar as yesterday, and rained heavily at time during the day. But with all gears have selected (less chaos), and having done one pool practice one (a little experience), I feel more at ease. The skills we practiced:

  1. remove the regulator (Magnum-primary; repeat)
  2. tilt to the right (repeat)
  3. losing the regulator, use yellow hose (repeat)
  4. drain the water (half/full) from the mask

The five of us also have the benefit of Ralph, and assistant coach with us, so it’s more fun than yesterday. Also not as cold – we got rained on yesterday while in the pool and as we were leaving.

Training day 2: pool & what to wear

It’s our first time hitting the pool @ dive. We lingered in the store and then headed to the pool at 6:30, after everyone has his gears picked.

I got there at 4pm, as the coach asked, to select my gears from the package.

The choices are hard to make: so many colors and styles … here is my most favorite suit but it’s 7mm which isn’t too suitable.

The air delivery system

… the personal snorkeling system

  • Panview mask w/ purge valve
  • surf snorkel
  • booties
  • fins
  • Akona 1mm exposure suit ⇒3mm wetsuit
  • SMB w/ spool, scrub, spit
  • Akona huron DLX mesh backpack

What/how to wear to an open water dive:

  1. pick your cylinder and test it
  2. sink bc to the cylinder and secure it (shake it)
  3. hook up the regulator to the cylinder and then bc
    1. test regulator (Magnum; grey) – primary breathing apparatus
    2. test octo (Sherwood, yellow) – secondary/backup breathing line
    3. hook up the LPI (low pressure inflator) hose to inflate the bcd, and secure it into the hock on the left chest
    4. secure duel gauge (Genesis: tank pressure/depth), left side; test the gas pressure (should be 3k psi)
  4. lay the tank down, to prevent from falling
  5. add weights if needed
  6. put on wetsuit
  7. put on booties
  8. attach snorkel to the mask, put in on your head or wear it
  9. put on the bc with the cylinder
    1. close waist velcro
    2. buckle waist
    3. pull down the two shoulder straps
    4. buckle the chest
  10. get into the water
  11. (it’s a good habit to test 4 lines again)
  12. put on the fins …
  13. if dive off the boat, put on the fins first, then into the unknown
  14. have fun

The watch is huge and weighty. I also purchased the goggle/mask strap, upgraded the snorkel, etc.

There are many other items that we should buy: knife, flash light, weight.

The pool is at his father’s house where Ed grew up. It’s a mile from the store. We practiced a few basics in the pool. I used 8 pound weight (4lb each) in the fresh water.

The tall and sleek cylinders on the right is made of steel and cost more.

It’s so heavy [Lol] there’s more [Flushed]

Two bagels and the dumplings

I played really well today, giving out two bagels: 5-0, 5-0, 2-5, no ad.

On the second bagel, it was ‘deuce’ which is one point decide. My first serve went long and the second serve was an ace to the ally. I was very happy.

A friend gave me a box of her homemade dumping last night – perhaps the dumplings exchanged for two bagels … ha ha ha.

An orange colored bug was spotted on the table during our play. Is it straddling the Bosphorus? Last Sunday, I saw a grayish one … bugs are everywhere, all kinds …

Dive: Training day 1

Training Day is Denzel Washington’s crime thriller film that came out in 2001, directed by Antoine Fuqua.

The beginning of a new journey.

The two week training begins with paperwork – online self study materials.

There are five of us in this class with master diver Edward Ciesla: father Jake and son James, Bart and Ryan – all men. Why most diving photos ore videos featuring young females – sexy appeal?

With all the new gadgets, it is a lot safer but is it still fun, especially for the seasoned divers?

We also looked at equipments and tried on the vest BC (buoyancy compensator device). We hooked up to the gas cylinder, but didn’t put on – just tooooo heavy. I’ll do more fittings tomorrow.

… at the moment, I’m feeling tired already -:) … if you think skiing requires a lot of equipment, think again.

Our training days has total of  37 hours:

  1. chap 1 & 2: 3 hr
  2. pool 3 hr
  3. chap 3 + pool 3 hr
  4. Lake Denton dives 9.5 hr 7:30-5pm
  5. chap 4 + pool 3 hr
  6. chap 5 + pool 3 hr
  7. chap 6 + final + pool? 3 hr
  8. Devil’s Den dive $40 9.5 hr
  9. graduation Halloween dive social
